Apostle of the Highways and Man of God

"Apostle of the Highways" William (with no last name) holds the staff he uses to trudge along highways throughout the Southwestern states. William was known to accept rides from strangers only to jump out of the car if they used a profane word. The 98 year old civil war veteran was a familiar figure to travelers in Kansas, but as reported, he "lies stricken" and when asked if he had any kin replied "I don't need relatives" and that his father in heaven will take care of him.
